Boys golf place 6th at invite
Blue Earth Area boys golf team traveled to New Ulm on Thursday for the Eagles Invite.
However, they didn’t have much luck, which could be a result of such little playing time so far this spring.
“It was not the best day for the Bucs in New Ulm, but in reality it was tough going for everyone,” Buc coach Travis Armstrong says.
The Bucs finished in sixth place with a 393 on an 18-hole course.
New Ulm Purple and New Ulm White finished in first and second, followed by Jordan, St. Peter, Norwood Young America, BEA, Glencoe-Silver Lake, New-Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva and LeSueur Henderson.
Trevor Zierke finished with a total of 94. Carding a 47 for both rounds.
“Trevor’s round was a good effort as he was battling an abdominal strain over the last four holes,” Armstrong adds.
The coach adds that Zierke was on pace to shoot a 90 up until that point.
Lane Anderson carded a 98 (50,48) with Connor Thielfoldt coming in just behind with a 100 (49,51).
Zach Curtis finished with a 101 (55,46) which contributed to the team total.
Other BEA?golfers include Josh Anderson with a 104 and Logan Jacobs with 106.
Jake Pieper of Jordan and Kelton Schmitz of New Ulm were tied for top medalist. Both golfers carded 79 on the 18 holes Pieper carded (40,39) and Schmitz (44,35)
Although the Bucs boys golf didn’t finish on top, they are hoping additional time practicing outside will help.
“We are looking forward to being able to practice outside again and work some of the kinks out of our swings,” Armstong says.
