Pirates struggle in the beginning, pull out a win
The Blue Earth Pirates baseball team continues their winning season after a match up against the Wells Wildcats.
The Pirates hosted the Wildcats in Blue Earth last Wednesday. The hometown team defeated the visitors in nine innings, 7-2.
However, if the outcome was based on the first few innings, spectators would not have guessed that the Pirates would come out the victor.
Wells was first up to bat, bringing two runs across home plate.
Unfortunately the Pirates didn’t start off on the right foot. The Wildcats got them out within the first three batters.
Both teams found themselves scoreless for the next five innings.
Then, in the bottom of the seventh the Pirates found the momentum they needed.
Bobby Olson, Kane Malo, Lee Hodges, Aaron Wendt, Brandyn Olsen, Zack Dahl and Domitri Beck all crossed the plate for the Pirates. They tallied seven runs in that inning which put them in position to win.
The Wildcats had just two innings to try to play catch up. However, they were unable to score any additional runs and the Pirates won, 7-2, after nine innings.
Olsen pitched all nine for the Pirates. He allowed two runs, eight hits, four bases on balls and had six strikeouts.
