Pirates set to play in league playoffs
The Blue Earth Pirates have advanced as the top team in their regional division.
The Pirates play in the 13-60 League-Black Division. The league playoffs will begin on Saturday, July 20.
Their opponents will be decided by a game that is set to take place just before the playoff game on Saturday.
The Cleveland Spiders will face New Richland and whoever wins that game will play the Pirates in the first league playoff game.
“We’ve beaten Cleveland twice and split against New Richland,” ?Coach Todd Schmidtke says.
The Pirates played the Spiders on June 2 and won, 15-2 and on June 26 and won 12-1.
On June 21, they faced New Richland for the first time of the season and lost 10-5. The Pirates however came back and won the second game on July 3 with a score of 9-2.
“Both teams are strong teams,”?Schmidtke adds. “Whoever we end up playing on Saturday, we have to play well.”
The game was set to be played on Saturday, July 20 at 2 p.m. at the baseball field in Winnebago.
The Pirates will play another league playoff game on Sunday afternoon.
If Blue Earth wins on Saturday, they will play the winner of the Wells and Waterville game which is going to take place Saturday as well. If they lose on Saturday, the Pirates will play the loser of the Wells/Waterville game.
“We have a league record of 10-2,” Schmidtke says.
The Pirates are also the Black Division champs of the 13-60 League which includes; Waterville Indians, Wells Wildcats, Lake Crystal Nine, Minnesota Lake Royals, Morristown Morries, New Richland Reds, Cleveland Condors and Cleveland Spiders.
