The Blue Earth Area VFW team played a great game on Friday, July 26, but failed to garner the win that would have moved them on in further post-season play.

Their 2013 season came to an end with a 3-0 loss to Chaska in Arlington in the VFW 2nd District Tournament.

The Blue Earth team had lost to New Ulm Gold 20-2 the day before in the double elimination tourney.

The game against Chaska was a pitcher’s duel for the first five innings. Both team’s hurlers each had a complete game effort.

Blue Earth pitcher Luke Schavey struck out 10 Chaska batters. He gave up the three runs, all earned, on seven hits and issued four walks.

Chaska’s Blake Tritech struck out 13 Blue Earth batters. He gave up three hits and three walks in the shutout effort.

Schavey, Mathew Bell and Blake Peterson each had a hit for Blue Earth.

Each team committed three errors.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning when Chaska scored their three runs.

Blue Earth’s final season record was 10 wins and 11 losses.
