The Blue Earth Area football team has owned the Windom Eagles over the past years.

That didn’t change when the Bucs shut out the Eagles 34-0 last Friday night in Windom.

Since 2008 the Buccaneers have outscored the Eagles 139-25 in four decisive victories.

BEA rushed for a total of 244 yards compared to only 11 rushing yards for Windom. There were eight different Buccaneers that carried the ball at least twice.

Quarterback Luke Schavey threw for 104 yards and rushed for 52 with a touchdown.

Gus Phillips had six attempts for 57 yards and two touchdowns; Justin Ritter had 52 yards and a touchdown and David Franta contributed 12 yards and a touchdown.

Schavey started the game with a 47-yard touchdown run on the Bucs second possession.

Gus Phillips recovered a fumble and ran it in from seven yards for the Buccaneers second touchdown of the game.

The Eagles struggled in the first half. They only ran 24 plays, gaining just 23 yards.

David Franta finished the maroon and gold first half scoring by hammering in another touchdown.

BEA took a 20-0 lead into halftime.

The second half was a lot like the first. The defense forced two interceptions by Trevor Zierke and Kolt Gorg.

The Buccaneers’ defense was great on third downs, only allowing the Eagles to convert 2 of 13 attempts.

The Bucs won the turnovers differential, forcing four.

” Anytime you can create turnovers it is a plus for your team,” coach Randy Kuechenmeister says. “The turnovers led to scores in the game.”

Justin Ritter and Gus Phillips scored for the Bucs in the second half, securing the win for Buccaneers.

BEA recorded 10 sacks on the night (four solo and six assisted).

The Eagles were held to only 46 yards and failed to get anything going on the offensive side of the ball.

They were led by running back Ryley Espensen who tallied 30 rushing yards on 12 attempts.

“Overall we are happy with the win,” Kuechenmeister says. ” We just need to keep working on being consistent with our assignments on both sides of the ball.”

The BEA Bucs took on New Ulm this past Friday, Sept. 20, a game played after the Faribault County Register deadline. Game analysis and photos will be included in the next Register.

This coming week, on Friday, Sept. 27, the Buccaneers will travel to Waseca for a game with the Bluejays.
