Boys place 2nd in SCC?championship

The Blue Earth Area boys and girls cross country teams competed at Riverside Town and Country Club in the South Central Conference Championship Meet on Oct. 8.

The boys’ runner-up finish was the best since 2006, according to coach Tom Plocker. They also had three runners finish in the top 11 spots.

Boys results: Waseca 20, BEA 64, Fairmont 72, St. James 87, St. Peter 122.

Zach Vaske (18:14) finished fifth overall and took home All-Conference honors. Heading into his final lap, Vaske was one spot out of the coveted All-Conference honor, but picked up the pace and passed three competitors to finish fifth.

Isaac Miranda, (18:52) ‘crushed the last mile to just miss a medal’ according to Plocker. Miranda finished eighth overall.

Mike Ankeny (19:05) contributed to the teams success as well by finishing 11th.

Other Buc runners included: Jordan Stelter (20:04); Kyle Mercer (20:08); Adam Buseman (22:08); Nick Shure (23:41).

Boys JV (5,000 meters): Gabe Jacobsen (22:43); Bobby Lindsey (23:11); Gunnar Fering (23:17); Alex Benson (23:57); Jaxx Jacobsen (23:52); John Lindsey (24:20); Sam Welker (25:06); Jack Nimz (25:11).

Girls Results: Fairmont 34, Waseca 44, St. Peter 82, St. James 103, BEA 107.

Taylor Grandgenett, (16:20) was again in contention for All-SCC with her best time of 2013.

Jenna Stevermer (17:31) set another personal record and improved her SCC place from last year.

Shayna Stevermer (17:36) had a strong showing after not being able to run at the conference meet last year.

Mariah Halvorson (17:40) and Sierra Halvorson (17:58) posted sub-18 clockings as well.

Other BEA girls competing included: Signe Olson (18:28); Zoe Thompson (18:41).
