Olsons earn All-SCC honors
All-conference softball players have been named and one Blue Earth Area player was recognized for her work on the field, and another BEA player received Honorable Mention.
Bethany Olson, who was one of three players to graduate this spring, was the All-Conference selection for BEA.
Olson spent most of her season on the mound pitching for the Bucs, which is where she really stood out as a player, according to coach Abby Bloomquist.
“Throughout the 2014 season she had many personal highlights, but what impressed me was her solid pitching,”?Bloomquist says.
The coach said that while Olson was able to step into any role on the field when needed, she was a strong pitcher.
“No matter who we faced or what the circumstances were, nothing fazed her in the circle,”?the coach adds. “She was aggressive and truly fielded her position, which not all pitchers do well.”
Bloomquist adds that aside from her time pitching, Olson was a leader for the Buccaneers this season.
“She took on the role of co-captain this year (along with Audrey McDonald), but she has always been a leader, title or not,”?she adds.
Her support for the team and knowledge for the game helped her be an asset to the team, offensively and defensively.
“She is willing to play any position and prove to be successful doing so,” Bloomquist says.
Joining her on the South Central Conference honors list was Ciarra Olson who was an Honorable Mention selection this season.
“Ciarra’s season was filled with numerous highlights as well,”?the Bucs coach says.
Bloomquist adds her offense and defense were almost flawless, but one very specific moment stands out in the coaches mind.
“The best moment was seeing her crush a solo homerun in the Jackson tournament,”?Bloomquist says. “You can’t quite explain the rush, but it’s unforgettable.”
Olson played this season at third base and cleanup hitter both of which put extra pressure on her at times.
“But, she took that in stride and was a force to be reckoned with,”?Bloomquist says.
The coach noticed in Olson a knowledge of the game and ability to make quick decisions.
“She is definitely a talented athlete and makes the game look easy,”?the coach says.
Both Bethany Olson and Ciarra Olson graduated this spring along with the other co-captain McDonald.
“The girls who follow in their footsteps have big shoes to fill,” Bloomquist says. “We will miss them greatly.”
