By Staff | Jul 14, 2014

The Blue Earth Pirates scored early and often in their 14-0 victory against the Austin BlueSox last Wednesday night in Blue Earth.

The Pirates (10-2) used three doubles from TJ Stallman, Aaron Wendt and Bobby Olson in the first inning to jump out to an early 3-0 lead.

In the second inning, Wendt supplied the play of the game. He looped a ball over the right fielders head and rounded the bases for an inside the park homerun, bringing the lead to 7-0. Wendt was 3 for 4 with three runs scored and contributed a season-high five RBI.

Brandyn Olsen continued the scoring in the fourth inning by driving two Pirates in to score with a single up the middle. Olsen ended the game 2 for 4 with three runs scored and three RBI.

Player/manager Lee Hodges then brought in a runner with a double of his own. Olson tacked on another run with a single, expanding the Pirates lead to 11-0.

TJ Stallman led the Pirates with four hits, going 4 for 5 with three runs and an RBI.

Olson was 2 for 4 and added three RBI.

Kane Malo hit two doubles for the Pirates as well.

Overall, the Pirates had 20 hits.

Hodges took the mound for the Pirates, throwing a four hit shutout in seven innings of work. He had seven strikeouts and didn’t allow a hit to the BlueSox until the fourth inning.

Despite a leadoff single and double from the BlueSox, Wendt composed himself and struck out two of the next three batters with a combination of offspeed pitches in the fourth inning, which was the only jam he faced all night.

The Pirates took on the Martin County Foxes this past Friday, July 11, a game played after the Faribault County Register deadline. Details will be included in the next Register.
