Bucs boys, girls cross country place 14, 16
Blue Earth Area boys and girls cross country rounded out in 14th and 16th place, respectively, out of 28 teams at the Gerry Smith/Titan Invite in Montgomery Thursday.
Though lightning and humid conditions delayed the meet, there were definitely “some notable races,” according to coach Tom Plocker.
Mariah Halvorson and Taylor Grandgenett bode well for the 4,000-meter girls varsity race. Halvorson placed 51st with a time of 18:23, and Grandgenett came in 54th only a few seconds behind Halvorson at 18:29.
Girls varsity, 4,000-meter: Shayna Stevermer, 81st, 19:16; Melissa Hagedorn, 107th, 20:23; Meredith Hagedorn, 128th, 21:21; and Athena Peterson, 129th, 21:28.
Girls JV, 4,000-meter: Rowan Hacken, 131st, 23:45; Justina Gaydon, 148th, 25:07; Lindsey Phillips, 162nd, 26:15; and Lexi Waddell, 165th, 26:28.
Girls JH, 2,000-meter: Callie Stevermer, 21st, 9:18; Marissa Waddell, 35th, 9:45; Amanda Jacobson, 47th, 10:03; Arianna Nagel, 49th, 10:07; Gabby Weerts, 51st, 10:09; Mariah Alberson, 84th, 10:53; and Hayley Jahnke, 91st, 11:53.
As for boys cross country, Mike Ankeny, Zach Vaske and Adam Buseman all had impressive races.
Ankeny finished in 24th place in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 18:16. Vaske moved up 41 places from 2013 to the 36th spot with a time of 18:40, and Buseman had a two minute improvement over last year’s time. He came in 105th with a time of 20:12.
Boys varsity, 5,000-meter: Alan Davids, 107th, 20:17; Seth Becker, 121st, 20:35; Jordan Stelter, 149th, 21:53; and Nick Shure, 157th, 22:18.
Boys JV, 5,000-meter: Jared Mensing, 80th, 21:47; Alex Benson, 94th, 22:07; Jesus Quintero, 218th, 27:29; and Jack Nimz, 220th, 27:39.
Boys JH, 2,000-meter: Brady Olsen, 6th, 7:39; Grant Strukel, 23rd, 8:03; Thomas Lindsey, 83rd, 9:09; Eric Becker, 91st, 9:16; and Blake Townsend, 153rd, 11:53.
