BEA boys, girls cross country place 2nd, 3rd
The Blue Earth Area varsity boys and girls cross country teams ran an impressive race at the Maple River Invite Thursday held at Daly Park. The teams placed 2nd and 3rd, respectively, against nine other teams.
Varsity runner Mike Ankeny took 1st place in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 18:01. Ankeny’s win ultimately resulted in the boys team placing 2nd overall.
Zach Vaske beat his time and placement from last year and went on to claim the No. 6 spot with a time of 18:38.
Seth Becker and Alan Davids finished only five seconds apart and wound up placing 18th (19:55) and 22nd (20:00), respectively.
Boys varsity, 5,000-meter: Jordan Stelter, 27th, 20:22; Adam Buseman, 38th, 20:50; and Alex Benson, 44th, 21:11.
Boys JV, 5,000-meter: Gabe Jacobsen, 5th, 21:19; Jared Mensing, 11th, 21:49; Jaxx Jacobsen, 27th, 23:31; Sam Welker, 38th, 25:04, Jesus Quintero, 44th, 26:43; and Jack Nimz, 45th, 26:50.
Boys JV, 1,600-meter: Brady Olsen, 1st, 6:04; Grant Strukel, 2nd, 6:10; Thomas Linsey, 8th, 7:00; Eric Becker, 11th, 7:23; and Blake Townsend, 20th, 9:20.
Mariah Halvorson led the varsity girls to claim a spot in 3rd place. With a time of 17:45, Halvorson placed 7th in the 4,000-meter race.
Taylor Grandgenett was only 15 seconds behind Halvorson and finished with a time of 18:00 and took 10th place.
Girls varsity, 4,000-meter: Shayna Stevermer, 16th, 18:37; Melissa Hagedorn, 25th, 19:30; Signe Olson, 27th, 19:37; and Athena Peterson, 33rd, 20:38.
Girls JV, 4,000-meter: Rowan Hacken, 11th, 21:50; Lexi Waddell, 12th, 21:59; Justina Gaydon, 13th, 22:24; and Lindsey Phillips, 14th, 22:26.
Girls JH, 1,600-meter: Marissa Waddell, 2nd, 6:54; Callie Stevermer, 3rd, 6:57; Amanda Jacobson, 4th, 7:08; Gabby Weerts, 7th, 7:27; Arianna Nagel, 10th, 7:40; and Hayley Jahnke, 14th, 8:32.
