Cross Country faces JCC, boys take 6th

The boys and girls cross country teams competed in their most challenging race of the season last Thursday at the Jackson Invite.

The Blue Earth Area boys team placed 6th and the girls team came in last at 11th place.

Of the 11 teams, Marshall, Martin County West and Mankato East proved to be the most difficult to beat.

Though there were many strong performances by opposing teams, 15 members of the boys and girls teams set a personal record in their specific race.

The 5,000-meter boys varsity personal record setters:

Alan Davids, 47th, 19:40; Seth Becker, 48th, 19:41; Adam Buseman, 64th, 20:16; Gabe Jacobsen, 72nd, 20:33; Jared Mensing, 80th, 20:52; Alex Benson, 86th, 21:06; and Jesus Quintero, 138th, 26:24.

Other 5,000-meter boys varsity scores:

Mike Ankeny, 10th, 17:41; Zach Vaske, 24th, 18:34; Nick Shure, 108th, 21:59; Jaxx Jacobsen, 124th, 23:51; and Jack Nimz, 140th, 26:46.

The 1,600-meter boys JH scores:

Brady Olsen, 10th, 5:41 (PR); Grant Strukel, 13th, 5:46 (PR); Thomas Lindsey, 48th, 6:40; Eric Becker, 63rd, 6:54; and Blake Townsend, 80th, 9:01.

The 4,000-meter girls varsity scores:

Mariah Halvorson, 40th, 17:42; Taylor Grandgenett, 42nd, 17:45; Shayna Stevermer, 48th, 18:18; Lexi Waddell, 96th, 22:37; and Hadley Mensing, 97th, 22:44 (PR).

The girls JH team won the team title as five of the runners set a personal record in the 1,600-meter race.
