Bucs facing the Cards in Section play

By Staff | Oct 27, 2014

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer football team did not have to play a Section game on Tuesday night, Oct. 21, because the 7-1 Bucs earned the No. 1 seed and had a bye in the first round of the Section 3AAA Football Tournament.

BEA was set to play a Section semifinal game on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 2 p.m. at home at Wilson Field against the Fairmont Cardinals.

The story of that game, plus photos, will be included in the next week’s edition of the Faribault County Register as the game was played after the deadline for this week’s Register.

The No. 4 seeded Cards earned the right to take on the Buccaneers by defeating the No. 5 seeded Saints of St. Peter 14-6 in a game which was played on Tuesday night, Oct. 21.

The winner of the BEA versus Fairmont game will move on to the Section 3AAA championship game against either Worthington or Belle Plaine. That game will be played on Friday night, Oct. 31, at the site of the higher seeded team.

Worthington (4-4) is seeded No. 2 and also received a bye in the first round.

Worthington will face No. 3 seeded Belle Plaine (4-5), which defeated No. 6 seeded Sibley East (1-8), last Tuesday.

The Buccaneers were ranked No. 6 in state in Class AAA in the final season poll. BEA defeated Fairmont 21-7 in a game played earlier in the season.

In other area football action last Tuesday night, Oct. 21, several teams won close contests in Section games.

United South Central defeated Murray County Central by a score of 14-13.

Maple River downed New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva by a score of 21-20.

Both teams now move on in Section action.

Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman, however, ended their season when they lost their game to Nicollet by a score of 42-8.
