By Staff | Dec 7, 2014

With Buccaneer basketball, wrestling and gymnastics starting to get into full swing, another winter sport is waiting until after the first of the year to begin.

Once again this year Blue Earth Area High School is part of the Lake Crystal Valley Co-op Alpine Ski Team.

BEA has one member on the team, senior Nick Lein.

Lein has been on the team for five years and last season was one of the leaders on the team.

Lake Crystal Valley Co-op Alpine Ski Team includes two members from Waseca High School, six from Maple River High School and four from Lake Crystal High School, besides BEA’s Lein.

The team includes both boys and girls participants and has five seniors, one sophomore, four freshmen, one eighth grader and two seventh graders.

The team has their first competition on Wednesday, Jan. 7 at the IMAC (formerly Tri-Metro) at Buck Hill. The next day they ski against St. Croix Prep at Afton Alps.

The team will host three meets on their home slopes at Mt. Kato. The first one is the Big 9 Race on Tuesday, Jan. 13. Another is the Wuk Fut on Tuesday, Jan. 20 and the final home meet is the River Bluff Race on Friday, Jan. 30.

The Sections Meet will be on Tuesday, Feb. 3 at Buck Hill, with the State Alpine Ski Meet on Wednesday, Feb. 11 at Giants Ridge.
