Buccaneer gymnasts fall to Worthington at first meet
The Buccaneers needed to shake out their first-meet nerves last week.
So, that’s just what they did when the Blue Earth Area gymnastics team traveled to Worthington last Monday, Dec. 1 to compete in their first meet.
As the coach Merissa Lore said, “The girls just need to build some confidence, get past the jitters of the first few meets.”
Worthington won the most points of the meet with a final score of 134.825. BEA finished 30 points behind with a score of 104.975.
One maroon and gold gymnast stood out to the judges, and although she did not take one of the top three spots, senior Erin Olson scored 28.725 to place fourth in the all-around category.
The vault was a rotation which kept the teams closer in score. However, Worthington took the win with a score of 35.475. The Bucs finished just behind them with a score of 30.750.
Worthington excelled in the uneven bars coming out ten points ahead of BEA. Worthington finished with a score of 30.975 in that event, and the Bucs had 20.650.
Balance beam also went to Worthington. Their final score in that event was 32.925 and BEA’s was 25.450.
The final event of the meet against Worthington was the floor routines. BEA finished that event with 28.125 but could not out perform the opposing gymnasts who had a score of 35.450 on the floor.
The Buccaneer gymnasts next meet will take place at the Winnebago Elementary School gym on Thursday, Dec. 11.
