Bucs defeat St. James
The Blue Earth Area boys basketball team started their season in St. James last Tuesday night.
After two postponements early in the season, the Buccaneers outhustled the Saints 55-42, placing the team at 1-0 in the Big South Conference.
A strong start and an early lead during the first quarter contributed greatly to the final score.
BEA ?junior Bailey Olson led the team, scoring 24 points.
Teammate Derek Johnson, senior, earned 14 points for the team.
With a staggering number of turnovers 20 by the end of the game the Saints had a tough time catching up to the Buccaneer’s lead beginning early on in the game.
In a team effort, the Bucs gained the advantage by hitting 19-of-38 field goals and securing three 3-pointers.
Of the 15 free throws awarded to the Bucs, eight of those shots were successful.
The Bucs played in the Maple River Tournament over the past weekend on Friday and Saturday. Those games were after the deadline for this week’s Faribault County Register and will be included in the next week’s edition.
The team is back on the road this week for a conference game against the Fairmont Cardinals, to be held Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Fairmont High School.
BEA has also released information on the Annual BEA Holiday Basketball Tournament, scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 29 and 30.
Besides BEA, the other teams invited are Truman/Martin Luther/ GHEC, Jackson County Central and United South Central.
The Bucs will begin play Monday night in the second game, facing off against T/ML/GHEC, starting at 7:45.
In the first game of the night, JCC will face off against USC.
On Tuesday night, the winners of Monday will play each other, as will the losers of Monday’s game.
