Buccaneer gymnasts end up third at own invite

The Blue Earth Area Gymnastics team held an invite in Winnebago on Saturday, Dec. 13.

BEA was joined by gymnasts from Martin County Area and Jackson County Central and served as a chance for the young BEA?gymnasts to continue honing their skills.

With many younger girls on the team this year, the coach hoped they could all use the beginning of the season to gain confidence which is just what they did during this invite.

The maroon and gold ended the invite with a team total of 97.40, scoring 31.65 on the vault, 20.30 on the bars, 21.225 on the beam and 24.225 on the floor.

Individually, the Bucs’ Erin Olson finished the day at the top of the pack, taking fifth place in the all-around category. She had a total score of 26.65 with scores of 5.45 on the bars, 7.975 on the vault, 5.975 on beam and 7.25 for her floor exercise.

MCA’s Bryanna Peterson took the top place in all- around with scores of 9.45 on bars, 8.55 on vault, 8.65 on beam and 8.825 with her floor exercise.

Other gymnasts placing in all-around included Haley Bass of JCC in second, Brielle Scheepstra of JCC?in third and Maggie Bachenberg of MCA in fourth.

JCC took the win as a team. They had an overall score of 139.425; 35.05 on vault, 33 on bars, 34.225 on beam and 37.15 on floor.

MCA?fell in the middle of the pack for the invite with a team total of 133.675; 34.40 on vault, 33.15 on bars, 32.70 on beam and 33.425 on floor.

Bryanna Peterson, of MCA, took first place on the bars with a score of 33.15. Martha Olson, of MCA, was first on the vault with a best score of 9. Haley Handevidt, of JCC, placed first on the beam with an average score of 8.80. JCC’s Brooklyn Schuett was the top gymnast for the floor exercise with an average of 9.45.
