Boys tennis team falls to Luverne Cards

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer boys tennis team ran into trouble at their first match of the season.

And that trouble was the Luverne Cardinals.

The Bucs fell to the Cards 7-0 in a match played at Luverne last Tuesday night.

BEA struggled against the powerful Luverne squad all down the singles and doubles lineup.

BEA’s Chandler Kienitz, a junior, playing at No. 1 singles, lost to Erik Wohnoutka, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 2 singles, senior Jaron King also fell by the same score, 6-0, 6-0, to Jacob Jarchow.

Buccaneer senior Martin Granados Jr. lost 6-0, 6-2, to Cory Strien at No. 3 singles. And, Buc freshman Spencer Petersen fell 6-1, 6-1, to Isaac Gillette at No. 4 singles.

The Buccaneer doubles teams did not fare much better.

Eighth grader Parker Kienitz and seventh grader Mason Hehr lost 6-1, 6-1, to Dalton Schoneman and Chris Jelken at No. 1 doubles. Freshman Spencer Timmerman and sophomore Dylan Herfindahl were defeated by the same score, 6-1, 6-1, by Tanner Baurstian and Trey Baurstian at No. 2 doubles.

Buc junior Adam Buseman and seventh grader Jonathan Hill lost to Monk Robinson and Cado Versteeg at No. 3 doubles by a score of 6-0, 6-0.

Next up for the Buccaneer squad is a home match on Monday against Austin, then they travel to Worthington on Tuesday, Waseca on Thursday and Albert Lea on Friday.
