A Perfect 10
This year’s Blue Earth Area girls track team is going to the State True Team track meet again, for the 10th year in a row, after their first place win at the True Team Sectional Championship held on May 5 in Mapleton.
BEA took home first place with 751.5 points with MT/GHEC/ML trailing in second place with 609 points. MCW took third place with 570.5 points, St. James came in fourth with 566.5 points and WEM received fifth place with 563 points.
This big win comes as no surprise, however, since the girls have won almost every single meet so far this season, and this meet was no exception.
Tom Plocker, head coach of the BEA Track and Field team expressed sheer Buccaneer pride when it came to the girls qualifying for State True Team.
“We strive to get our two individuals in each event in the top 10, and each of our relays in the top five” says Plocker. “There were 28 total competitors in each individual event. Last night we had nine individual events where that happened, and all four of our relays placed in the top four. It was a stellar all-around meet for the BEA girls. I feel very honored to be a part of such a quality group of ladies.”
The BEA girls’ 4 x 100 meter relay team, comprised of Paige Darrington, Miranda Johnson, Melissa Hagedorn, and Skylee Bell, were able to get first place for the Bucs with a combined time of 53.43.
The 4 x 200 meter relay girls team comprised of Darrington (28.8), Johnson (27.0), Alissa Norman (28.2), and Anne Franta (27.5) won second place with a combined time of 1:51.77 for the Buccaneers, and the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Taylor Grandgenett (64.4), Alissa Norman (66.9), Hannah Johnson (66.3) and Shayna Stevermer (63.3) won second place with a combined time of 4:21.34.
