The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers boys golf team had to fend off both the elements and the Fairmont Cardinals last Monday night on the Riverside Town & Country Club golf course.

It was a cool, windy and rainy round of golf and the Cardinals got the best of it, downing the home team Buccaneers 165 to 178.

BEA was led by Connor Thielfoldt who came in with a 42, including a birdie on the par five third hole.

Right behind was fellow senior Zach Curtis with a 43. Despite running into trouble on the first hole which gave him an eight, Curtis managed to hit three birdies on the nine holes and come in with the 43.

Hunter Spencer shot a 46 for the Buccaneers and both Jared Mensing and Tyler Hannaman came in with identical 47s. BEA’s other varsity golfer, Gaven Bruellman, came in with a 52.

Fairmont’s Joe Nortdquist shot a 38 good for medalist honors.

The Cards’ Sam Havnen and Bryan Grotte both shot 42, and Ethan Lubenow came in with a 43 to complete Fairmont’s team total.

The Bucs junior varsity also lost, by a score of 201 to 265.

The JV squad was led by Tate Thielfoldt who carded a 54.

This coming week the Buccaneers will be playing at Waseca on Thursday and hosting Jackson County Central on Friday.
