BEA competes at BSC golf tournament

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer girls golf team ended up in eighth place at the Big South Conference Meet held in Fairmont last Monday afternoon.

The Bucs tallied a 438 team score that edged out Worthington’s 439 by one stroke.

And one Buccaneer gained BSC All-Conference honors.

Natali Fellows finished the day with an 18-hole total of 93, good for 13th place and All BSC honors.

Ashley Peterson came in with a 106, for 34th place, while teammate Mateja Lane carded a 111 and was in 42nd place. BEA’s other team score came from Malorie Scholtes with a 128 in 63rd place.

The Bucs other varsity golfer, Kaitlyn Olsen, came in with a 129, in 65th.

BSC West Division winner Marshall won the overall BSC team title with a 343, defeating East Division winner St. Peter who came in with a 401.

Medalist was Hanna Peterson of Marshall, who came in with a one over par 73.

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer boys golf team ended up taking 10 place out of 13 teams, at the inaugural Big South Conference Golf Tournament held last Monday in Fairmont’s Interlaken Golf Course.

The Bucs put together a team total of 376.

One BEA golfer came in with a score that earned him BSC All-Conference honors.

Connor Thielfoldt carded an 81 on the 18-hole course, which tied him for third place and gave him the All-BSC honors.

Zach Curtis came in with a 91 for the Bucs next score.

“Zach fought the conditions and some wayward drives,” Buc head coach Travis Armstrong says. “The 91 is higher than his recent scores, so hopefully it doesn’t happen again in the post season.”

Gaven Bruellman had a great second nine holes, shooting a 45, that enabled him to finish with a 98.

The Bucs’ fourth score for team total came from Jared Mensing who carded a 106.

Also playing for the Bucs were Hunter Spencer who came in with a 107 and Tanner Wickersham who carded a 111.

Worthington beat New Ulm for the team championship by a score of 226-333.

Medalist honors at the conference meet went to Ethan Krause from New Ulm who came in with a 72.

The Buccaneers now get ready for the Section 2A, South Sub-Section Meet which starts at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26 at North Links in Mankato.
