Fellows heads to State Golf Tournament

By Staff | Jun 7, 2015

One of Blue Earth Area High School’s four golfers competing in last week’s Section 2AA Golf Meet will be moving on to the State Golf Tournament this week.

Natali Fellows came in with a score of 92 at the Section Meet held on the Creek’s Bend Golf Course in New Prague.

Her score was the second lowest girls total in the Section Meet and will send the Buccaneer junior on to the State 2AA Golf Meet set for this week Tuesday and Wednesday, June 9-10, at the Ridges at Sand Creek Golf Course in Jordan. Fellows will tee off at noon on Tuesday.

The Buccaneer’s other girl’s team golfer at the Section Meet, eighth-grader Mateja Lane, shot a 107 total for the 18 holes, placing her in a three-way tie for 24th place out of the 43 golfers there.

Liz Theis of SENYA was the girls medalist with an 88. Albert Lea was the winning team and will go to State representing Section 2AA.

The Bucs also had two of their boys team golfers competing at the Section 2AA Golf Meet.

Seniors Connor Thielfoldt and Zach Curtis were just outside of the cut for the trip to the State Golf Meet.

Thielfoldt shot an 84 for the 18 holes, just two strokes higher than the 82 that ended up being the cutoff for the State qualifying score.

Curtis was just one stroke back of that, with an 85 for the day.

Thielfoldt ended up in a tie for 15th place while Curtis was in a tie for 17th place, out of the 42 players competing.

Carson Haley of Mankato East was the Section 2AA medalist with a score of 75. His Mankato East team was the Section 2AA champion and will move on to the State Meet as a team.

The United South Central boys golf team was the Section 2A champions and will be headed off to the State Class 2A Golf Tournament, scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, June 9-10, at Pebble Creek Golf Club at Becker.

The Rebels shot a 327 team tally to claim the Section 2A championship at North Links Golf Course in North Mankato.

Ryan Pederson led the way for the Rebels with a 71 score for the 18 holes.

Nate Pederson followed with a 79, while Nick Newbauer carded an 80 and Aaron Schaper came in with a 97 to complete the Rebels team total.

Martin County West was in second with a 344 total.

The USC girls golf team was also competing at the Section 2A tournament as a team.

The Rebels came in with a team total of 418, which put them into third place, behind champions Springfield with 389 and New Ulm Cathedral with 402.
