BEA’s Jacob Johnson to play All-Star game
Blue Earth Area standout football player Jacob Johnson will be heading to St. Cloud University next week to play in the Minnesota Football Coaches Association All-Star game.
Johnson will join 87 other outstanding high school football players who have been selected to participate in this year’s All-Star game.
The game will feature players from the northern part of the state taking on players on a team from the south.
The game will be played on Saturday, June 27, with kick-off set for 1 p.m. The game has returned to Husky Stadium on the campus of St. Cloud University after having been played at Clemens Stadium at St. Johns University.
Johnson will be a linebacker on defense for the South All-Stars.
The BEA senior had a tremendous season with the Buccaneers this past year.
Johnson had 101 tackles, three sacks and one fumble recovery for the team last year.
“Jacob was our leading tackler he has a nose for the football,” Buc coach Randy Kuechenmeister said. “And on offense he is tough, hard to bring down when he runs with the ball, and is a great blocker as well.”
Johnson had 681 yards on 102 rushes last year, with eight touchdowns as well as four catches for 16 yards and another touchdown.
“He is a team leader who plays with a lot of heart and makes those around him better,” Kuechenmeister said. “In short, he just loves the game.”
The 2015 All-Star Football Game will be the 42nd in the current annual series and the 53rd overall.
Last year the South All-Stars defeated the North All-Stars 37-22. The South All-Stars lead the current North/South series 11-9-1.
