BEA tracksters earn academic honors

There were a total of 12 Blue Earth Area track and field athletes who were named Academic All-State for the 2015 season.

In order to obtain Academic All-State, the student must be in grades 9-12, have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.6, and meet at least one of the following track and field standards: earning All-Conference honors, qualifying for the individual State Meet, or meet at least one of the standards on raceberryjam.com, which is a site for reporting outstanding performances in Minnesota.

The Buccaneer honorees and their qualifying events are as follows:

Derek Johnson, grade 12 (200 meter dash, 4×100 meter relay, and 4×200 meter relay); Jacob Johnson, grade 12 (4×100 meter relay); Paige Darrington, grade 11?(4×100 meter relay, 4×200 meter relay); Anne Franta, grade 11: (200 meter dash, 400 meter dash, 4×100 meter relay, 4×200 meter relay, 4×400 meter relay); Taylor Grandgenett, grade 11 (300 meter low hurdles, 4×400 meter relay); Miranda Johnson, grade 11?(100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, long jump, 4×100 meter relay, 4×200 meter relay); Karli Olsen, grade 11 (400 meter dash, 800 meter run, 4×200 meter relay, 4×400 meter relay); Brandon Olson, grade 11 (pole vault, 300 meter intermediate hurdles); Shayna Stevermer, grade 11?(300 meter low hurdles, 4×200 meter relay, 4×400 meter relay); Zach Vaske, grade 11 (1600 meter run, 3200 meter run); Melissa Hagedorn, grade 9 (100 meter high hurdles, 4×100 meter relay); and Lindsey Norman, grade 9 (shotput).
