Pirates suffer two losses last week
The Blue Earth Pirates hosted the Waterville Indians last Wednesday night.
It could have been anyone’s game as the Pirates were at a 16-2 record and the Indians have only suffered three losses this season with an 11-3 record.
However, the Pirates had to add another loss to their record after falling to the Indians with a score of 13-1.
The Blue Earth boys started the game with by getting one man on base with a double and the next three batters getting out, making for a quick and unproductive first inning.
The Indians, however, quickly started scoring in the first inning and had a string of hits which kicked off their scoring.
The first inning seemed to set the tone for both teams and Waterville continued to score runs while Blue Earth managed to score only one run in the second inning.
Cody Sukalski was 1 for 2 at bat and hit a homerun in the second inning, scoring the sole run for the Blue Earth team.
John Franta was 2 for 4 at bat as hit a double in the first inning.
TJ Schmidtke was 1 for 4 at bat.
Brandyn Olsen was 1 for 3 hitting for the Pirates.
Bob Olson was 2 for 3 at bat for the Blue Earth boys as well.
The Pirates are scheduled to play again next Tuesday, July 7. Results from that game will be featured in the next issue of the Faribault County Register.
They will travel to LeCenter where they will play Cleveland. They will also play in the Coors Light Classic on July 10 and 11 in Jordan and?Shakopee.

The Blue Earth Pirates suffered only their second loss of the season after traveling to Jackson last Saturday.
The game started out close, however the Jackson Bulls quickly pulled ahead in the fifth inning and ended with a final score of 12-8 in the Bulls’ favor.
The Bulls kicked things off in the first inning bringing in four runs. The Pirates scored two runs to keep things close.
However, the Bulls scored eight more runs in the fifth, bumping the score to 12-2.
The Blue Earth boys answered back by scoring three runs in the sixth.
The Bulls were in the lead but did not bring in any additional runs in the remainder of the game. That left the Pirates scoring runs, trying to get closer to the opposing team.
They scored one more in the seventh and two more runs in the ninth, ending the game at 12-8, a loss for the Pirates by just four runs.
Garret Anderson took the mound for the Pirates pitching 4 2/3 innings. He faced 24 batters, allowed four walks, nine hits and eight runs. He also had four strikeouts.
Aaron Wendt also pitched for Blue Earth for 1/3 inning. He pitched to five batters, allowing three hits, one base on balls and four runs.
Brandyn Olsen pitched for two innings. He faced six batters and had four strikeouts. He did not allow any hits or runs while pitching.
Lee Hodges pitched the remaining inning for the Pirates. He had two strikeouts and allowed just one hit off of four batters.
Olsen was 3 for 6 at bat for the Pirates and scored two runs. He also accounted for one RBI.
Anderson was 2 for 5 batting, scoring two runs for Blue Earth. He also took one base on balls and accounted for one RBI.
TJ Schmidtke was 1 for 5 at bat scoring one run in the first inning. He also took one base on balls.
Hodges was 1 for 3 at bat and scored one run. He also accounted for two RBI, one double and he took two bases on balls.
Kane Malo was 1 for 4 at the plate and scored one run. He also had one RBI and took one base on balls.
Carter Hanson was 1 for 2 at bat and scored one run in the ninth inning. He also took two bases on balls, stole two bases and accounted for one RBI.
The Pirates were also scheduled to play New Richland twice last weekend, however, they won by default after New Richland forfeited both games.
After the two forfeits from New Richland and the loss to Jackson, the Pirates’ overall season record is at 16-2.
