Pirates tally one win, suffer one loss

The Pirates spent last weekend playing against the Spooner Bandits.

The two teams played in Bancroft, Iowa, but the Spooner Bandits are of Spooner,?Wisc.

After a slow start to the game, the Bandits came away with the win, 6-3.

The Bandits scored the first run of the game in the second inning. In fact they brought in two runs to kick things off. Spooner scored another run in the fifth, bumping the score to 3-0.

The Pirates got on the board in the sixth when they evened things out. They scored three runs to bring the game to a tie.

It remained tied until the eighth inning when the Bandits went ahead with three more runs.

Brandyn Olsen pitched for the Pirates, taking the mound for 7 1/3 innings. He faced 31 batters, allowed six hits, five bases on balls and six runs. He also had four strikeouts.

Lee Hodges pitched for 2/3 of an inning. He faced just three batters and only allowed one hit. He also had one strikeout.

John Franta was 2 for 4 at bat and scored one run for the Pirates.

Olsen was 1 for 4 batting and brought in a run for Blue Earth in the sixth inning.

David Franta also scored for the Pirates, bringing in one run in the sixth, as well.

Hodges stepped up to bat and accounted for one RBI, hit one sacrifice and took one base on balls.

Kane Malo was 2 for 4 at bat and accounted for one RBI.

Garrett Anderson also had one RBI for the Pirates in the sixth inning.

The Pirates played again on July 25 however, that was after the Faribault County Register’s deadline. Results from the game will be featured in the next issue of the Register.

Blue Earth 9, Fairmont 8

The Pirates pulled out an impressive win when they hosted the Fairmont Martins last week and came from behind to win.

The Martins traveled to Blue Earth last Thursday to take on the Pirates, in what ended up being a very close game.

Although, the opposing team started things off, they could not power ahead quite enough and the Blue?Earth boys won by just one run.

The Martins took the lead in the first two innings with one run. They scored two more in the third to leap ahead with three runs.

However, the Pirates got in on the scoring in the third inning. They brought in three runs of their own to tie up the game.

The Blue Earth boys then pulled ahead when they scored a run in the fourth.

With the score at 4-3, the game was in anyone’s hand by the fifth inning especially since the Martins scored another run that inning.

Fairmont hit the ground running in the sixth inning, bringing in three runs. The Martins scored another run in the seventh bringing the score to 8-4.

At that point, the Pirates had just three innings to catch up to the Martins. And that is just what they did.

Blue Earth scored one run in the eighth and three in the ninth to tie up the game and send it to extra innings.

In the 10th inning, the Pirates took the win by scoring one last run for a final score of 9-8.

Aaron Wendt took the mound for the Pirates, pitching a total of five innings. He allowed six hits, one base on balls and four runs. He also had five strikeouts.

Cody Sukalski pitched for the other five innings. He allowed five hits, one base on balls and four runs. He also had two strikeouts.

Sukalski also stepped up at the plate for Blue Earth. He was 2 for 4 batting. He hit one double and took one base on balls and accounted for three Pirate runs.

TJ Schmidtke was 4 for 6 at bat for Blue Earth. He had one run and accounted for two RBI.

Brandyn Olsen was 2 for 6 hitting. He had two RBI, one base on balls and scored one run.

Lee Hodges was 3 for 5 at bat. He had one RBI?and scored one run.

Trent Sonnicksen was 1 for 4 batting and scored one run. He also took one base on balls.

John Franta also hit for the Pirates. He was 2 for 5 at bat and had one RBI?and one base on balls. Franta scored one run for the Pirates in the third inning.
