Pirates qualify for State Tournament
During the Pirates matchup against Waterville last Sunday in the Region 4C Tournament, pitcher Garrett Anderson hustled with the ball to get the batter out at first. The Pirates claimed a 4-1 victory during that game which earned them a ticket to State.
The Blue Earth Pirates traveled to Waterville for the Region 4C tournament where they went head to head with two other teams.
And, after defeating those two teams, the Pirates earned a ticket to State and returned to Waterville this weekend to determine their seed at the State tournament.

Kato Cubs 2
Blue Earth played the first round of the Region Tournament on Saturday, Aug. 8 in Waterville against the Kato Cubs.
The game started off in a quick lead for the Pirates and continued in their favor, resulting in a 7-run win over the Cubs.
The Pirates started off the first inning with six runs, a good start for the first round of the Region tournament.
Blue Earth stayed at six runs for a couple of innings until they brought in two more in the fifth, bumping the score to 8-0.
The Cubs, however, finally managed to get themselves on the scoreboard. In the fifth inning, they answered back with a run of their own.
They scored again in the sixth, bringing in another run and bumping the score to 8-2.
Still in the lead, the Pirates really cemented their win by scoring another run in the seventh and finishing the game with a score of 9-2.
Aaron Wendt took the mound for the Pirates, pitching a total of six innings. He allowed four hits, one base on balls and two runs. He also had six strikeouts.
Brandyn Olsen pitched for three innings and faced nine batters. He had two strikeouts and did not allow any hits or runs.
Lee Hodges stepped up to the plate for Blue Earth and was responsible for three runs for his team. He was 3 for 4 at bat and scored a run in the first, fifth and seventh inning.
Hodges hit a home run in the first, a double in the seventh and accounted for two RBI.
Olsen was 1 for 2 hitting for the Pirates. He scored two runs and accounted for one RBI?and one base on balls.
Cody Sukalski took one base on balls and scored one run for Blue Earth in the first inning.
John Franta was 1 for 5 hitting and scored one run for the Pirates.
Bob Olson was 2 for 3 at the plate, scored one run and accounted for one RBI.
Garrett Anderson was 1 for 3 batting. He took one base on balls, hit one double and accounted for one run for Blue Earth.
Blue Earth 4,
Waterville 1
After defeating the Kato Cubs, Blue Earth advanced on to the next round of the tournament and faced Waterville on Sunday, Aug. 9.
This game also started out in the Pirate’s control, however, this time it was just by one run.
Blue Earth brought in the first run of the game in the first inning and Waterville did not respond with a run of their own until the fifth inning.
The Pirates advanced from there by scoring three more runs in the eighth inning and winning the game with a score of 4-1.
Garrett Anderson took the mound for the Pirates. He pitched for all nine innings and faced 37 Waterville batters.
He allowed three hits, four bases on balls and one run and had five strikeouts.
Cody Sukalski was the first to score for the Pirates in this game. He was 0 for 5 at the plate and scored one run.
Lee Hodges was 1 for 5 batting for Blue Earth. He scored one run in the eighth inning.
Trent Sonnickson took one base on balls and scored a run in the eighth inning.
Bob Olson was 3 for 3 at the plate for the Pirates. He scored one run, accounted for one double and took one base on balls.
The two wins qualified the Pirates for the State Tournament. However, they still played this weekend in the Region 4C tournament.
They played on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Waterville. That game took place after the Faribault County Register’s deadline and results will be featured in the next issue.
If they won the game on Saturday, the Pirates would have advanced and played again on Sunday in Waterville at 11 a.m.
The outcome of the weekend Region play will determine the Pirate’s seed for the State Tournament.
