Buccaneers hang on for 36-33 victory

BEA’s Cole Klinkner works hard to try and get Fairmont-MCW’s Payton Anderson turned over during their 132 pound match last Thursday night in Blue Earth. Klinkner went on to win the match 13-6 and the Bucs came out ahead 36-33 in the close match.
The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer wrestling team had to come from behind in their match against the Fairmont-Martin County West Bulls last Thursday night in Blue Earth.
Then, once they got ahead, they had to hang onto the lead at the end to win.
BEA ended up topping Fairmont-MCW by a score of 36-33.
After taking the first match for a 3-0 lead, the Bucs trailed the Bulls for the next eight matches before finally taking a 24-23 lead.
Then BEA won twice more to lead 36-23 before hanging on for the win.

BEA’s Caden Ochsendorf works hard for a 6-3 win over Fairmont-MCW’s Jaxson Rohman at 107 pounds in the match last Thursday evening in Blue Earth.
It was Caden Ochensdorf who got the maroon and gold off to a positive start with his 6-3 win over Jaxson Rohman at 106 pounds.
But, the Bulls’ Jordan Wolter took an 11-2 major decision against Joe Schavey at 113 pounds, Zachary Ringnell pinned BEA’s Dalton Nagel at 120 and Chris Ettesvold defeated Adam Legred in a close 2-0 match at 126.
That made the score 13-3 in favor of Fairmont-MCW.
Cole Klinkner gave BEA three more points when he defeated Payton Anderson 13-6 at 132 pounds.
But, the Bulls came back with Mario Maldonado getting a 10-2 win over Camden Bowers at 138 pounds, and Collin Steuber pinned BEA’s Rylee McGuire at 145.
That made the score 23-6 in favor of the Bulls. However, the Buccaneers were about to mount a big comeback with four falls in a row.
Zach Buseman got things rolling by pinning Nathan Simmons at 152 pounds. Then Wyatt Tungland pinned Dayton Nielsen at 160, Roger Ziegler pinned Parker Anderson at 170 and Jesus Quintero put Conner Tordsen on his back in 16 seconds at 182.
All that was followed with Jared Armon winning by a forfeit and suddenly BEA was ahead 36-23.
The Bucs’ Trevor Oppedal lost a 10-2 battle at 220 pounds to Luis Figueroa and BEA had to forfeit at 285 pounds giving the Bulls 10 more points.
However, it wasn’t enough and the Bucs claimed the victory over the Bulls.
Next up for the Buccaneers is a home triangular against Waseca and New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva. Then on Saturday, Jan. 16, they will be hosting Estherville Lincoln Central.
