BEA wrestlers take on Waseca, NRHEG

Two for two.

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer wrestling team hosted a triangular last Thursday night and came out with two wins by nearly identical scores.

The Bucs defeated the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva Panthers 46-27, then turned around and defeated the Waseca Bluejays 45-25.

The two wins upped the Bucs record to 8-5 for the season.

BEA 46, NRHEG 27

Rylee McGuire works for a takedown in his 145 pound match which he won 6-2 against his Waseca Bluejay opponent. The Bucs won both matches.

The Buccaneers were off to a fast start against the Panthers as the first three wrestlers for BEA won with pins.

All in all there were a total of 10 victories by fall in the 14 matches six by BEA and four by NRHEG.

Caden Ochsendorf had a pin in 21 seconds at 106 pounds, Joe Schavey added a fall at 113 pounds and Dalton Nagel pinned his opponent in 33 seconds at 120.

BEA led 18-0.

After Adam Legred lost by a fall at 126 pounds, Camden Bowers won 14-5 at 132 and Cole Klinkner came through with a pin at 138, the score was 28-6.

The Panthers got a win by a fall at 145 pounds over Rylee McGuire and a 10-6 decision over Zach Buseman at 152 to get closer at 28-15.

But the Bucs won the next four matches. Wyatt Tungland pinned his man at 160 pounds, Roger Ziegler won 4-0 at 170, Jesus Quintero won 6-3 at 182 and Jordan Huse got his first career varsity victory with a pin at 195.

BEA was up 46-15, but Jared Armon at 220 pounds and Damian Cornelio at 285 both lost by a fall and the final score was 46-27.

BEA 45, Waseca 25

Caden Ochsendorf started the match against the Bluejays with his second pin of the night at 106 pounds.

Joe Schavey lost a 14-4 decision at 113 pounds that made the score close at 6-4.

However, the Bucs won the next six matches in a row to take a commanding 30-4 lead.

Dalton Nagel pinned his man at 120 pounds, Adam Legred won 3-2 at 126, Camden Bowers had a pin in one minute at 132, Cole Klinkner did it in 46 seconds at 138 and Rylee McGuire won 6-2 at 145.

Wyatt Tungland lost by a fall at 152 pounds before Zach Buseman gained six team points at 160 by a forfeit. That made the score 36-10.

Roger Ziegler lost 7-2 at 170 pounds and the Bucs were forced to forfeit at 182 and the score became 36-19.

Jesus Quintero’s pin at 195 pounds put the Bucs back on the right track. Trevor Oppedal lost by a fall at 220 and Jared Armon ended the night with a 3-0 win at heavyweight, 285 pounds.

The Bucs traveled to Estherville, Iowa on Saturday for a meet after this week’s Faribault County Register went to press, and details will be in the next edition.

This week the Buccaneers travel to St. Peter on Thursday.
