Buccaneer 106-pound wrestler Caden Ochsendorf gets his Medford opponent locked and ready to turn over during the Section 2A wrestling contest last Thursday night in Blue Earth. Ochsendorf won the match by a score of 5-2.

It was all over in a hurry.

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers crushed the Medford Tigers in the opening round of the Section 2A Wrestling Tournament by the score of 68-5.

And, with the Bucs winning nine of the 14 matches by either a fall or a forfeit, the contest did not take very long to complete.

The victory propels the Buccaneers into the section quarterfinals that were set for Saturday, Feb. 13, after the deadline for this week’s Faribault County Register and details and photos will be included in next week’s edition.

The quarterfinals and championship matches were all set for Saturday at United South Central School in Wells.

Joe Schavey works for a reversal on his way to a 15-3 victory in his 113 pound match. The Buccaneers won the match 68-5.

The four remaining wrestling teams are No. 1 seed Kenyon-Wanamingo vs. No. 4 Maple River, and No. 2 Blue Earth Area vs. No. 6 seeded Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial.

Maple River reached the quarterfinals by defeating No. 5 seeded United South Central in Wells last Thursday.

Against Medford last Thursday in the BEA gym, the Buccaneers cruised to victory.

The match started at 160 pounds and Wyatt Tungland pinned Greg Larson in 51 seconds.

After Roger Ziegler won by forfeit at 170 pounds, the Bucs had four first period pins in a row.

Jesus Quintero pinned Javis Von Ruden at 182 pounds, Jordan Huse pinned Nate McCarty at 195, Jared Armon pinned Nick Meixner at 220 and Trevor Oppedal pinned Trevor Spatenka at 285 in 43 seconds.

Caden Ochsendorf added to the barrage with a 5-2 win over Jonny Meyer at 106 pounds and Joe Schavey had a 15-3 major decision over Bryce Larson at 113.

With the Bucs ahead 43-0, the Tigers finally got on the scoreboard when BEA’s Kolby Nagel lost by a 16-1 technical fall to Willie Von Ruden at 120 pounds.

Jaxen Klinkner won by a fall over Christian Tupa at 126 pounds and Camden Bowers won by a forfeit at 132.

Cole Klinkner scored a 13-3 major decision over Bo Noble at 138 pounds and Rylee McGuire won by a forfeit at 145.

The most exciting match of the contest was the final one.

The Bucs’ Zach Buseman and the Tigers’ Marcus Deleon battled to a 7-7 tie at the end of their 152 pound match. Then Buseman won in the overtime period with a 2-2 score.
