BEA boys notch big win over Worthington
The Bucs’ Bailey Olson goes through all kinds of outstretched arms in order to get this shot off during the Pipestone game. BEA lost the game 72-48.
With a few losses on the record, it was nice to win one. And what a nice win it was for the Blue Earth Area Buccaneers basketball team as they played against the Worthington Trojans last Monday night. The score ended with a commanding 15-point lead by the Bucs, 57-42.
The Bucs started off strong after both Alan Davids and Brandon Olson scored three-pointers for the home team, and after that, the Bucs would not, could not, be stopped.
Even after an exciting first half with a 19-point tie at the end, the Bucs did not stop.
They came back into the second half with Chandler Kienitz making another three pointer for the Bucs right off the bat, but then Worthington came back to tie again with BEA at 24 points.
That was enough for the Bucs. They pushed into high gear and started scoring points left and right.
Swish, swish, swish.
The Bucs’ accuracy with their shots helped them to obtain a 10-point lead on the Trojans.
But the Trojans pushed, so the Bucs pushed harder, keeping their lead at least 10 points ahead of their competition.

Pipestone 72, BEA 48
The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers suffered another loss for the season against the Pipestone Arrows, and, boy, were those Arrows sharp. The visiting team of the Feb. 12 game won 72-48.
The Bucs worked hard at keeping on top of their game by scoring well and staying on top of their opponents in the first half of the game.
Early on in the first half, the Bucs tied with the Arrows twice, both at a score of 12 and then with matching scores of 15. Jacob Vaske of the Bucs made a three pointer, almost tying the game up yet again, 21-20.
However, this is where the Buccaneers seemed to lose their momentum, after the 15-15 tie, the Arrows kicked it into high gear, making a 10-point lead ahead of the Bucs in three minutes.
BEA battled hard to gain back some control of the game, but were unsuccessful at the end of the first half with a score of 39-27 in favor of Pipestone.
The second half did not get any better for the Bucs. Once back on the court, the Arrows were swift and accurate.
In no time at all, the Bucs were struggling with a 15 point deficit, and overcoming that hurdle proved to be impossible.
The Bucs could not get their shots into the net. Many shots were attempted, but not too many made it in the basket.
As BEA did their best to keep fighting, the Arrows raged ahead, eventually creating a distance of 28 points between them and their Buccaneer opponents.
Bailey Olson and Chris Sanders both tried to make a few last ditch efforts to score for the Bucs. Olson sank a basket and a free throw while Sanders scored three more points for the home team with a three pointer.
The Bucs’ field goal percentage for the game was at 33 percent, while their free throw percentage was 45 percent.
