Buccaneer track & field teams both take third at MSU meet
The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers attended their first meet of the season Saturday, April 2, in Mankato at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Both the BEA boys and the BEA girls track teams started off on a solid foot for the season. Both teams took third place overall with many teams and individuals placing well.
The maroon and gold girls team did take third place with 81 points, just four points shy of second place which went to Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial, with 85 points. Waterville-Elysian-Morristown took first for the day with 127.
Top performances for the girls were Melissa Hagedorn’s first place time of 9.5 during the 55 meter low hurdles. Hagedorn also took fourth in pole vault with a height of 7-0. Teammate Shayna Stevermer took second in low hurdles with a time of 9.6.
Hagedorn also took fourth in the 55 meter high hurdles with a 9.8 time, while teammate Taylor Grandgenett took third with a time of 9.7.
The 4 x 200 meter relay team, consisting of Shayna Stevermer (28.7), Taylor Grandgenett (28.7), Sofie Blair (30.1), and Hannah Johnson (29.4) took second place as did the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Shayna Stevermer (66.3), Sofie Blair (70.6), Sidney Blair (76.7) and Hannah Johnson (69.8).
BEA’s 4 x 800 meter relay team nabbed third place with a time of 11:43.8. The team consisted of Sofie Blair (2:51.6), Callie Stevermer (2:49.5), Kaitlin Johnson (2:51.8) and Sam Ripley (3:10.9).
Taylor Grandgenett was also able to bring in some points for BEA by placing second during her high jump with a 4-4 leap.
Amanda Jacobson took third place in triple jump with a distance of 29-6 1/2, and Brittany Johnson also took third in the shot put category with a distance of 28-6.

Boys Results
The Buccaneer boys fought hard against neighboring teams at the MSU meet taking third with 67 points behind St. Clair who took second with 110 points and LCWM/N who took a clean sweep with 151 points.
Camden Bowers notched a first place win during the 55 meter dash event with a time of 6.9. Bowers also took third place in the triple jump category with a jump of 38-6 1/2.
Fellow teammate Jordan Frandle also placed well in the 55 meter dash event by taking fourth place with a time of 7.1.
First-timer Fabian Riegelsberger was able to take second place in the 800 meter run category with a time of 2:16.4 while fellow teammate Grant Strukel came in fourth in the event with a time of 2:22.7.
The boys relay teams had a solid meet as well. The 4 x 800 meter relay team of Adam Griffin (2:17.3), Grant Strukel (2:18.9), Brady Olsen (2:31.1) and Akeira Morrow (2:23.9) took second place in their event with a time of 9:31.2.
The 4 x 200 meter relay team also took second place with a time of 1:41.6 with the help of Gunnar Fering (26.3), Brandon Olson (25.3), Jordan Frandle (25.9) and Camden Bowers (24.1).
The 4 x 400 meter relay team placed with a time of 4:04.2. The teamwork of Gunnar Fering (64.9), Adam Griffin (60.7), Clayton Johnson (60.3), and Seth Becker (58.4) brought BEA their fourth place win in the event.
