BEA tennis takes a hit

The Blue Earth Area tennis team got off to a rocky start to the 2016 season last Tuesday night.

The Buccaneers were swept by the Luverne Cardinals, 7-0, on the Schroeder Courts in Blue Earth.

The Bucs struggled to win even more than one game during each match.

BEA senior Chandler Kienitz lost to Luverne senior Erik Wohnoutka at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Parker Kienitz, a freshman, fell 6-0, 6-0, to senior Jacob Jarchou at No. 2 singles.

At No. 3 singles, BEA eighth-grader Jack Frundt lost 6-1, 6-1, to sophomore Mark Robinson. And, Spenser Timmerman, a sophomore, was defeated at No. 4 singles by Layne Curtis, also a sophomore, 6-0, 6-1.

The Bucs No. 1 doubles team of sophomore Spencer Petersen and junior Dylan Herfindahl lost 6-1, 6-0 to the Cardinal junior team of Chris Jelken and Dalton Schoeneman.

At No. 2 doubles, senior Adam Buseman and eighth grader Jake Barke lost 6-1, 6-0 to sophomore Cade Ver Steeg and Tanner Baustian, a senior, 6-1, 6-0.

Eighth-grader Jonathan Hill and seventh-grader Jacob Olsen teamed up at No. 3 doubles, but fell to Trey Baustian, a sophomore, and Isaac Gillette, a junior, 6-0, 6-0.

The Buccaneers next match is on Tuesday when they travel to Albert Lea. They will host Winona Cotter on Friday in Blue Earth.
