High Flying Buccaneers

Heidi Hermann bounds over the bar during the pole vault event last week during Blue Earth Area’s hosting of their Buc Invite for track and field. Heidi took fourth place with a clearing height of 7 feet 6 inches. The BEA?girls team was able to take second place at the meet while the boys team took sixth place.

Blue Earth Area’s track and field team held their annual Buc Invite on Friday, April 15. The Buccaneers made a valiant effort during the meet and their efforts paid off fairly well.

The girls track team was able to take second place with 347.5 points, just behind Fairmont who nabbed first place with 406.5 points. Jackson County Central took third with 271.5, with Waseca following in fourth with 255 points.

BEA’s Shayna Stevermer and Taylor Grandgenett swept the 300 meter low hurdles. Stevermer took first place with a time of 48.4 while teammate Grandgenett followed close behind in second with a time of 49.0 seconds.

Stevermer (28.6) and Grandgenett (27.3) joined teammates Hannah Johnson (65.1) and Karli Olsen (2:32.2) in the medley relay. They took first place for the maroon and gold.

The 4×400 meter relay team of Stevermer (63.6), Grandgenett (62.9), Olsen (60.1) and Sofie Blair (64.8) were also able to take first place in the event.

Miranda Johnson runs with all of her might during one of her events at the Buc Invite. She received third place in the 100 meter dash, her 4x200 meter relay team received third place, and her 4x100 meter relay team nabbed first place. The BEA?girls track team came in second at the meet with 347.5 points.

Not only that, but the 4×100 meter relay team of Paige Darrington, Miranda Johnson, Tea Armstrong and Skylee Bell also took first place for BEA.

Bell was also able to take first place in the long jump with a distance of 15 feet 4 inches, while teammate Johnson took second with a distance of 14 feet 8 1/2 inches.

Nicole Lium of the Bucs took first place in the pole vault event with a height of 9 feet. She also took second in high jump with a height of 4 feet 10 inches.

Lindsey Norman also took first in shot put with a distance of 37 feet 7 inches.

Boys Results

The boys made a valiant effort at their home meet last week, but were unable to get into the top three scoring positions. The BEA boys took sixth place with 247.5 points while rivals Fairmont took first place with 413.5 points. Waseca took second with 339 and Maple River’s score of 322 put them in third.

BEA’s boys medley relay team of Brandon Olson (23.7), Seth Becker (25.2), Clayton Johnson (55.9), and Fabian Riegelsberger (2:06.6) were able to take second for the event.

Olson also took second in his 300 meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 42.1 seconds.

Fellow teammate Camden Bowers also took second place in the triple jump category with a distance of 39 feet 8 inches.
