Four BEA Bucs named All-BSC
A pair of Blue Earth Area Buccaneers landed on the 2016 Baseball All-Conference Team.
As a team, the Bucs finished seventh among “big schools”?in the Big South Conference standings, but Kolt Gorg and Kaylan Legred stood above the pack, earning recognition as part of the Big Division’s honorary 27-player All-BSC team.
Gorg, a recent BEA graduate, logged 20 hits and a .303 batting average during his senior season with the Bucs. Primarily manning left field, he scored 14 runs and drove in another 11 in 2016.
“He was one of our senior captains and an excellent leader, too,” said Bucs coach Todd Schmidtke. “Despite having an injured shoulder, he played a nearly flawless left field, making several crucial diving catches.”
Legred, meanwhile, had 23 hits for the Buccaneers in 2016, averaging .306 at the plate. In addition to driving in eight runs, Legred scored another 17 and stole 15 bases, all while serving as a regular catcher for BEA.
“He played an excellent role as catcher,”?Schmidtke said, “throwing out many runners attempting to steal. He’s already a three-year starter and still a junior.”
Two Blue Earth Area Buccaneer softball players were also given Big South All-Conference honors.
Annaliese Klinkner, a senior at BEA. earned a position on the All-Conference team, while her teammate and fellow senior classmate Angie Cyphers received an honorable mention by the Big South All-Conference.
