Tracksters earn Academic All-State honors

Seventeen Blue Earth Area track and field athletes were named Academic All-State for the 2016 season.

In order to be eligible for the honor, student-athletes must be: in grades 9-12 have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.6 meet at least one of the following track and field standards: earn All-Confer- ence honors, or qualify for the individual State Meet, or meet at least one of the standards on raceberryjam.com (a site for reporting outstanding performances in Minnesota).

Buccaneer honorees (and their qualifying events) are: Paige Darrington, grade 12 (4×100); Anne Franta, grade 12 (200, 4×100, 4×200, 4×400); Taylor Grandgenett, grade 12 (300 hurdles, 4×400); Miranda Johnson, grade 12 (100, 200, long jump, 4×100, 4×200); Karli Olsen, grade 12 (400, 800, triple jump, 4×200, 4×400); Brandon Olson, grade 12 (110 meter high hurdles, 300 meter hurdles); Shayna Stevermer, grade 12 (300 hurdles, 4×200, 4×400); Seth Becker, grade 11 (300 meter hurdles); Jordan Frandle, grade 11 (4×200); Fabian Riegelsberger, grade 11 (800, 4×400); Sofie Blair, grade 10 (4×400); Melissa Hagedorn, grade 10 (100 meter hurdles, pole vault); Clayton Johnson, grade 10 (4×400); Alissa Norman, grade 10 (4×200); Lindsey Norman, grade 10 (shot put); Amanda Jacobson, grade 9(4×400); Hannah Johnson, grade 9(4×400).

Both teams also achieved the Gold Level academically (an average cumulative GPA of at least 3.75): The BEA girls accumulated a GPA of 3.96, while the boys tallied 3.78.
