No. 3 Bucs enter Sub-Section tourney

Touting a 7-3 record in the Big South Conference, the Blue Earth Area Buccaneers are slated to kick off the Class AA South Sub-Section tournament with a match on their home court, taking a 17-7 record into postseason play.

Downed by Jackson County Central on Tuesday, Oct. 18, the Bucs now have their sights set on Oct. 27, when they are scheduled to host New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva as the No. 3-seeded team in the tourney.

In the event the maroon and gold top NRHEG on Thursday night, BEA would move on to play either No. 2 St. Peter or No. 7 Fairmont on Nov. 1 at Mankato East, 30 minutes after the conclusion of a match between teams in the top half of Sub-Section bracket competition.

Against Jackson County Central on Oct. 18, the Bucs suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Huskies in their final showdown before the tournament.

JCC’s victory came courtesy of 25-12 and 25-13 wins to start the match, as well as a 25-21 decision in game four of the evening.

BEA battled back by taking the third game, 25-23, but was ultimately unable to overcome its slow start against the Huskies.

Lindsey Norman, who logged six digs, also led the maroon and gold with eight kills on the night, while Sidney Blair and Samantha Barslou chipped in with six apiece.

Lindsey’s sister, Alissa, helped balance the BEA offense with 23 set assists.

Barslou and Lindsey Jacobs combined for another 15 digs against JCC.
