Bucs’ star runner Grant Strukel earns top-10 placing
Solid individual scores made the day for the Blue Earth Area Cross Country team at the Gerry Smith/Titan Invite at Montgomery Golf Club last Thursday.
As for the BEA boys team, it was Grant Strukel who brought the thunder, yet again, for the Bucs. Strukel took sixth place in the Varsity 5K with a time of 16:58.
“Grant zoomed to a sub-17 clocking and an impressive top 10 placing in this large and talented field,” said Plocker.
The Boys team, however, earned 19th place out of 29 teams with a score of 546 points.
Loyola/Cleveland earned first place in the Boys Varsity 5K with a team total of 77 points, while St. James came in second place with 113 points. Third place went to Jordan with 128 points, while Waconia picked up fourth place with 129. Waseca tied with Waconia, but took fifth.

Boys Varsity- 5000 meters: Brady Olsen (18:49), Gunnar Fering (22:02), Jacob Dikken (22:07), Eric Becker (22:16), Cameron Germain (23:12), Blake Townsend (24:50).
Boys JH-2500 meters: Angel Martinez (11:16), Alex Dikken (12:16), Carson Strukel (13:45), Shane Levenhagen (13:51).
“A solid day for the girls, as nearly everyone had a personal record or season best time,” said head coach Tom Plocker.
The BEA girls team finished 17th out of 29 teams with 442 points. Fairmont was able to win the meet with 109 points, with Waconia coming in second place with 119 points. Taking third was Waseca with 192 and Belle Plaine followed closely with 134 points for fourth. Mahtomedi was the team to take fifth with 136.
“Kaitlin Johnson keeps shaving time off of her 5K, while Melissa Hagedorn and Callie Stevermer were just a few ticks away from their all-time bests,” says Plocker.

Girls JH- 2500 meters: Elizabeth Jacobson (14:09), Elle Wilkerson (16:54).
The Bucs’ next meet will be held at Daly Park against Maple River this coming Thursday, Sept. 14.
