Buccaneers cross country struggle in the soggy mud

By Staff | Oct 8, 2017

With slick and drizzly conditions, the Blue Earth Area Cross Country teams stayed alive during the I-90 invite last Thursday evening at Cedar Creek Point in Fairmont.

Twelve schools competed hard and the BEA girls team stuck it out with the best of them. However, for this meet, the team was unable to place in the top five. The Buc girls team placed ninth with 211 points.

Martin County West was able to take fifth with 161 points with St. Peter pulling ahead of them for fourth with 154. Mankato East tallied 118 points for third while Fairmont placed second with 53 points. Belle Plaine took first as a team with 48 points.

“Despite the dismal conditions, this was a very encouraging meet for the ladies today,” said head coach Tom Plocker. “Kaitlin Johnson surged to her best-ever 5K in the mud.”

Johnson placed 34th individually with a time of 22:14 for the 5,000 meter race.
