Buccaneers sweep away competition

A clean sweep.

The Blue Earth Area wrestling team traveled to Estherville, Iowa, last Tuesday night for a quadrangular meet and came home with a clean sweep of the other three teams at the meet.

The Bucs downed Algona, Iowa, 41-33, Estherville Lincoln Central 63-13 and Okoboji, Iowa, 57-13.

BEA’s closest match came against Algona, but a fast 35-0 start allowed the Bucs to hang on to a 41-33 win.

Caleb Beeler started the Bucs off at 106 pounds with a pin and Davis Sunken added a technical fall at 113.

Jack Frundt scored a 10-2 major decision at 120 pounds, followed by Max Ehrich getting a pin at 126.

Then both Koby Nagel and Joe Schavey scored major decision at 132 and 136 pounds, 16-8 and 15-7 respectively.

After Cole Warmka was pinned at 152 pounds, Zach Buseman turned right around and pinned his opponent in 29 seconds at 160.

Algona went on a 5-0 run, winning the next five matches all by pins, over Akeira Morrow, Dominic Morrow, Jordan Huse and Isaac Martinez.

Trevor Oppedal ended the match with an 8-2 decision at 285 pounds to seal the win.

BEA had little trouble with Estherville Lincoln Central, taking four matches by forfeits and six by falls to win 63-13.

Isaac Martinez at 220 pounds and Trevor Oppedal at 285 started the match off with pins.

Caleb Beeler won by a fall at 106 pounds and Davis Sunken lost by a 9-0 major decision at 113.

Then Jack Frundt and Max Ehrich won by forfeit at 120 and 126 pounds.Koby Nagel at 132 pounds, Joe Schavey at 138 and Jaxen Klinkner all won by pins.

Cole Warmka lost a 14-7 decision at 152 pounds. Zach Buseman won by a fall at 160, but Akeira Morrow lost by a fall at 170.

Dominic Morrow won a 9-6 victory at 182 pounds and at 195, Jordan Huse ended the match with a win by forfeit.

It was a similar story when the Bucs took on Okoboji and won 57-14.

Jordan Huse started the match with a pin at 195 pounds, followed by Isaac Martinez and Trevor Oppedal winning by default at 220 and 285.

Caleb Beeler at 106 pounds and Davis Sunken at 113 both won by pinning their opponents, and the Bucs had a 30-0 lead.

Jack Frundt lost a 5-1 decision at 120 pounds but Max Ehrich won 12-6 at 126, Koby Nagel 4-2 at 132 and Joe Schavey a 13-4 major decision at 138.

Cole Warmka lost by a 13-5 major decision at 145 pounds, but Jaxen Klinkner at 152, Zach Buseman at 160, Akeira Morrow at 170 and Dominic Morrow at 182 all won by a pin to end the match.
