A split.

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers won two, lost two, at the Kasson-Mantorville Duals on Saturday, Jan. 27.

The Buccaneers opened the day with a 45-28 win over Lewiston-Altura-Rushford-Peterson, then lost to state-ranked Waconia 47-25, lost a 38-37 one-point heartbreaker to Caledonia-Houston, then finished the day with a 47-33 victory over Byron.

Two Buc wrestlers, Koby Nagel and Trevor Oppedal, went a perfect 4-0 during the meets.

Here is how the four matches went.

BEA 45, LARP 28

Only two of the 14 matches between BEA and LARP were decided by a simple decision. The rest were either falls, technical falls, major decisions or forfeits.

Caledonia-Houston 38, BEA 37

The Bucs built up a good lead in the first half of the match against Caledonia-Houston, only to see it slip away in the second half, and suffering a one-point loss.

Caleb Beeler took a 6-2 decision at 106 pounds and Davis Sunken won by forfeit at 113 to give the Bucs an early 9-0 lead. Jack Frundt lost an 11-3 major decision at 120, to make it 9-4.

Rylee McGuire at 160 pounds, Eric Anderson at 170, Akeira Morrow at 182 and Jordan Huse at 195 all lost by being pinned, while BEA also forfeited at 220.

Trevor Oppedal pinned his opponent at 285 pounds, but those six team points only made it 38-37.

BEA 47, Byron 33

Every one of the 14 matches of BEA vs. Byron except one resulted in six points going to the team winning each individual match.

There were falls, forfeits, and one injury default.
