Buccaneer track shines bright again
Chalk up another win for the Blue Earth Area Buccaneer boys track and field team. At the Buc Indoor meet held last Thursday, April 5, at the MSU?campus, the Buc boys earned 84 points to take first place. Waterville-Elysian-Morristown placed second with 77 points while Sibley East came in third with 54 points. St. Peter earned fourth place with 48 points, and St. James grabbed 29 points for fifth place.
“A nice team win for the fellas highlighted by two huge marks by seniors Rylee McGuire and Clayton Johnson,” said head coach Tom Plocker.
McGuire earned first place in pole vault at the meet with a height of 12-6, while Johnson earned first in high jump with a height of 5-4. McGuire (26.3) was also a member of the 4×200 meter relay team which also included Waylen Douglas (26.7), Ben Babcock (26.6) and Cameron Anderson (26.4) where BEA (1:45.4) earned second place.
Johnson was a runner in the 4×400 meter relay team for BEA who also earned second place with a time of 3:50.6. Johnson?(57.0) was joined by teammates Adam Griffin (57.9), Grant Strukel (58.3), and Alex Reese (57.4).

800 meter run: Clayton Johnson (second, 2:17.2).
55 meter high hurdles: Gunnar Fering (second, 8.5).
55 meter int. hurdles: Gunnar Fering (second, 8.9), Alex Reese (third, 9.4).
55 meter dash: Ben Babcock (fifth, 7.1).
200 meter dash: Cameron Anderson (fourth, 25.8).
400 meter dash: Alex Reese (fourth, 57.7), Adam Griffin (fifth, 57.9).
High jump: Brady Olsen (fifth, 5-2).
Pole vault: Thomas Lindsey (second, 9-6), Matthew Krause (fourth, 9-6).
Long jump: Ben Babcock (second, 19-4), Cameron Anderson (fourth, 19-1).
Triple jump: Clayton Johnson (second, 40-8 3/4).
Shot put: Grant Madetzke (33-11), PJ Christensen (32-4), Luke Norman (31-2), Keagan Ihle (31-1 1/2), Johnny Hynes (29-9), Carson Strukel (21-10), Cameron Hassing (20-3), Sully McGuire (20-1).
“A solid night for the girls,” says Plocker. “Melissa Hagedorn powered to two hurdle wins in her best-ever marks and had fun anchoring the 4×4 while Nicole Lium posted a couple wins in her final indoor meet.”
Hagedorn earned first with a time of 9.3 in the 55 meter highs, while shaving off just a bit for the 55 meter lows with a 9.2, still for first.
Lium earned first with a 4-6 in the high jump and a 9-6 for first in pole vault, while teammate Lindsey Norman placed first in shot put with a 36-5.
The 4×400 meter relay team consisting of Hannah Johnson (69.9), Sofie Blair (70.6), Callie Stevermer (71.6), and Hagedorn (68.5) earned first with a time of 4:40.3
