The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer girls are off to State True Team as a wild card.

As the full statistics trickled in last Saturday, May 12, while BEA competed at the Big South Conference, it was determined the Blue Earth Area track and field girls team would be heading to the State True Team competition in Stillwater on Saturday, May 19.

“The Buc girls gave a whole-team feisty performance to narrowly miss the title,” says head coach Tom Plocker. “But, they are still alive as a wild card for State True Team. After a ‘virtual meet’ with all of the section results, it is determined who the wild card teams are. In past years, there has been only one wild card team at State, but this year they have four. So, we were fortunate for the expanded field. The girls finished second in the virtual wild card meet, and the boys finished 11th. There were 32 teams eligible for wild card berths for both boys and girls.”

The BEA girls earned a total of 755 points at the Section 2A True team event on May 8, in Wells. They were just behind Minnesota Valley Lutheran who earned first place with a team total of 767.5. Meanwhile, coach Plocker commended the effort level of the Blue Earth Area Buccaneer boys.

“The boys boasted numerous bold performances to stay in the hunt for a True Team berth,” said Plocker. But to no avail. Though the BEA boys earned third place at the meet, with a total team score of 666.5, it was not enough to beat Loyola-Cleveland’s first place score of 698.5 or LeSueur-Henderson’s second place score of 692.5.
