Gavin Storbeck hustles down the first base line in a road game against St. James on Friday, May 4.

In their regular season finale, the Blue Earth Area Buccaneers baseball team (5-12) defeated New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva (5-8) by a score of 9-4.

The game featured four BEA pitchers who combined to strike out 10 batters and allow just a single earned run. Senior pitcher Jared Kennedy started the game and gave the Bucs three innings. Meanwhile, Hunter Bleess, Gavin Storbeck and Bobby Lindsey pitched the last four innings and surrendered just three hits the rest of the way.

On offense, Bleess added a single, a walk and a run scored for the Bucs. Lindsey also contributed with a single in the second inning.

Collectively, the Buccaneers produced eight hits on the afternoon, and had seven batters reach base via base on balls.

Center fielder Joe Schavey and catcher Karson Legred were the top offensive stars of the game for the maroon and gold. Both players enjoyed multi-hit games, and scored a run apiece for the Bucs.

Meanwhile, BEA cleanup hitter Jordan Huse also contributed with a double, a stolen base and two runs in the game. Second baseman Sam Mensing had a single in the ballgame as well.

Sectional competition began for the Bucs on Thursday, May 24. Results from their first round contest will be available in next week’s edition of the Faribault County Register.
