Winnebago/BE Legion earns a double-header sweep
Winnebago/Blue Earth Legion Post 82 and 89 took both games of their home double-header against St. James on Monday, June 18. By virtue of those victories, their season record now stands at 5-2.
In the first game, Winnebago/BE earned an 8-0 shutout win. Hunter Bleess pitched six and two-thirds innings, struck out a whopping 14 batters, and allowed just three hits in the ballgame for Winnebago/BE.
Bobby Lindsey enjoyed a 2-for-3 evening at the plate, and Joe Schavey also contributed for Winnebago/BE with a hit and two runs scored.
Despite the lopsided outcome, Winnebago/BE enjoyed just a 1-0 lead going into the sixth inning.
“It was a very competitive game,” said Winnebago/BE coach Steve Sonnicksen. “They made some miscues, and we were able break it open with seven runs in the sixth.”
In the second game, Winnebago/BE came out on top by a final score of 7-2. Zac Schonrock tossed a complete game, and recorded 12 strikeouts while allowing five hits and two earned runs.
Offensively, Winnebago/BE was led by Jared Kennedy, who went 3-for-3 with a double, and Lindsey who went 2-for-4.
Winnebago/BE’s June 21 game against St. Clair was rained out. Their next game is a home double-header against Truman on June 25, starting at 6 p.m.
