BE Pirates in a two game slide

By Staff | Jul 8, 2018

For the first time this season, the Blue Earth Pirates have dropped two consecutive ballgames.

On Saturday, June 30, the Pirates suffered a road defeat to the Wells Wildcats, 9-2. Pirate hitter Aaron Wendt went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

Meanwhile, Pirates manager and pitcher Lee Hodges went 3-for-4 with a run batted in. Logan Jahnke also added a hit and an RBI for Blue Earth.

On the mound, Alan Davids took the loss for the Pirates. He tossed eight innings and recorded six strikeouts, but unfortunately for Pirate fans, Davids allowed eight earned runs in the game.

On Sunday, July 1, the Pirates played their home contest in Winnebago against the Waterville Indians, and were blanked 9-0. In the loss, Kaylan Legred went 2-for-4 with a stolen base, while Kane Malo and Wendt also added 2-for-3 performances at the plate.

Hodges pitched seven innings for Blue Earth and struck out five while allowing four earned runs in the loss.

With the last two losses, the Pirates are now 8-5 on the season. Despite these recent setbacks, Hodges believes the end result has not been indicative of the team’s performance in recent games.

“I think offensively, we’re doing fine, we’ve just been hitting the ball right at people,” Hodges says. “We put together 11 runs in one inning against Jackson, so we know what we’re capable of. I think this week off will help us get some rest, so we can prepare for the stretch run.”

On Sunday, July 8, the Pirates squared off against the Minnesota Lake Royals in double-header action in Blue Earth. Results from those games will be available in next week’s edition of the Faribault County Register.
