Bucs volleyball drops their first two matches of 2018

On Aug. 28, the Blue Earth Area volleyball team lost a tough five set match against Lake Crystal Wellcome-Memorial.

After winning the first and fourth sets, the Buccaneers were defeated 15-8 in the final set. For the game, Hannah Johnson led all Buc players with 12 kills. Meanwhile, Alyssa Ripley notched five kills and Kiera Osmundson had four kills of her own.

Maddie Armon registered 21 set assists in the loss while five Buccaneers recorded digs in the contest. As Adri Granillo led the way with 11, Osmundson had nine, Armon and Gabby Haaland each had eight, and Johnson added seven digs.

The Bucs totaled six ace blocks on the evening with Haaland and Ripley recording three a piece.

Luverne 3, BEA 1

Blue Earth Area opened their season on Aug. 25 with a loss 3-1 at the hands of the Luverne Cardinals.

Things looked promising for the Maroon and Gold as they won the first set handily, 25-13. However, the Cardinals came on strong from that point forward to sweep the rest of the match.

Hannah Johnson compiled a team-high 11 kills, and also produced and nine digs. Meanwhile, Alyssa Ripley had seven kills and six digs. Kiera Osmundson chipped in with six kills. Maddie Armon totalled 24 set assists and seven digs.
