BEA suffers big loss to JCC
The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers football team fell to the Jackson County Central Huskies by a score of 47-7 in a game played Sept. 14 at Wilson Field in Blue Earth.
With the loss the Bucs record fell to 0-3 with all three of their losses coming against opponents that were ranked in the top 10 in the AP football polls.
Blue Earth Area received the opening kick off and started their first series from their own 24-yard line.
Wide receiver Cameron Anderson was on the receiving end of two passes from quarterback Hunter Bleess that resulted in two first downs and moved the ball out close to midfield at the Buccaneer 48-yard line. However the drive stalled and Koby Nagel punted the ball away. Following a fair catch the Huskies took over on their own 23-yard line.
It took JCC just seven plays to find the end zone. A 33-yard pass completion coupled with a face mask penalty did most of the damage to move the ball down to the Buccaneers four-yard line. It took the Huskies two more plays to cross the goal line and take the lead. The extra point kick was good and with 7:25 remaining in the first quarter the Huskies held a 7-0 lead.
JCC would add to their lead late in the first quarter. Facing a fourth down and needing 10 yards for a first down, the Huskies lined up for a field goal attempt. The snap from the center sailed over the head of the holder but the broken play resulted in a Husky touchdown when the kicker was able to avoid being tackled and threw a 16-yard touchdown pass. The PAT kick was good and JCC took a 14-0 lead with 2:25 left in the first quarter.
The Buccaneers had trouble handling the ensuing kick off and started their next drive deep in their own territory at the six-yard line.
On their first play from scrimmage the Bucs fumbled the ball and the Huskies recovered it at the Blue Earth Area four-yard line. It took three plays, but the visiting Huskies were able to punch the ball into the end zone again. The successful PAT kick increased the lead to 21-0 in favor of the Huskies with 1:23 left in the first quarter.
The visiting Huskies added one more touchdown in the second quarter but the two-point conversion failed. The first half ended with the Bucs trailing the Huskies 27-0.
Blue Earth Area kicked off to begin the second half and Anderson raced down the field to recover the ball at the JCC 19-yard line. Koby Nagel rushed the ball for two yards and then Bleess scrambled for a 17-yard gain to put the Buccaneers on the board. The extra point kick was good and the score stood at 27-7 in favor of the Huskies.
JCC would add to their lead, scoring two more touchdowns in the third quarter. They failed on a two-point conversion but held a 40-7 lead at the end of the third quarter.
The Huskies would tack seven more points in the fourth quarter to make the final score 47-7.
Jackson County Central had 23 first downs and amassed over 400 yards from scrimmage to outpace the Buccaneers who had nine first downs and 110 yards from scrimmage.
Hunter Bleess completed 14 of 27 pass attempts for 67 yards. Cameron Anderson hauled in seven passes for 42 yards.
Max Ehrich and Adam Griffen who recorded 10 and six tackles, respectively, led Blue Earth Area on defense. Jaxen Klinkner had three tackles along with a quarterback sack. The team had one interception by linebacker Zac Murphy.
The Buccaneers next game was their homecoming game against Martin County West on Sept. 21. Results of that game will be in next week’s edition of the Faribault County Register.
