It has been a tough year for the Fairmont Cardinals Hockey team so far. Their overall record after their game last Tuesday night stands at 1-16.

They have been held scoreless on nine different occasions and have had trouble keeping the opponent’s puck out of the net.

Their only victory so far season came against Worthington on Jan. 10. The Cards won the contest by a 1-0 score.

There have been other opportunities to add to the win column but the Cards have let some chances slip through their hands.

For instance, the Fairmont squad was tied at 2-2 after two periods against the Morris/Benson Storm. The Cards scored the first two goals of the third period to take a 4-2 lead. However, the Storm outscored Fairmont 5-1 in the final 15 minutes, including the final four goals of the game, to win the contest 7-5.

Three Blue Earth Area students are members of the Cardinals hockey team. They are Karson Legred, Josef Olson and Bobby Karp.

Keeping a consistent set of guys on the ice has been a problem for the team.

“We have been hit by a lot of injuries this season,” Legred explained. “We are sticking together as a team, working hard and we are still having fun.”
