Wrestlers 4-0 at Sibley East duals
Blue Earth Area traveled to Arlington on Saturday, Jan. 19, to participate in the Sibley East Duals and came home with a perfect 4-0 record.
Many of the teams participating had trouble filling their rosters this year which resulted in a lot of forfeited matches, according to Buccaneer head coach Randy Wirtjes.
“Our boys were ready to wrestle,” Wirtjes said. “Ty Peterson had a real good day with his defeat of the No.-7 ranked wrestler from Sibley East, Derek Steele.”
The Buccaneers began the day with a 75-3 win over LeSueur-Henderson. In their second dual of the day, the Bucs took on Minneapolis North Community and came out on top 72-12.
Next, they defeated the host team, Sibley East, by a score of 60-9. The Bucs wrapped up their day with a 62-12 thrashing of Trinity School at River Ridge.
BEA 75, LSH 3
Carson Sturtz at 106 pounds got the Bucs off to a good start with a second period pin. Ty Peterson at 113 pounds pinned his opponent in 35 seconds to put the Bucs up 12-0.
Davis Sunken received a forfeit at 120 pounds increasing the Buccaneer lead to 18-0.
Caleb Beeler lost a 7-2 decision at 126 pounds making the score 18-3 in favor of the Bucs.
Jacob Beeler at 132 pounds, Jaxen Klinkner at 138, Max Ehrich at 145 and Koby Nagel at 152, all won by falls increasing the BEA lead to 42-3.
Next, the Bucs received five consecutive forfeits putting BEA on top 72-3.
Logan Johnson at 160 pounds, Nick Frank at 170, Dominic Whitlow at 182, Luke Mertens at 195 and Eric Anderson at 220 were the recipients of the forfeits.
Ian Cornelio closed out the scoring for the Bucs, winning by a 7-1 decision in the 285-pound match, giving BEA the 75-3 victory.
BEA 72, Minneapolis North Community 12
Blue Earth Area received 12 forfeits in their match against Minneapolis North Community to account for all 72 of their points.
Carson Sturtz at 106 pounds and Luke Mertens at 195 pounds were defeated by third period pins for the Bucs only losses.
BEA 60, Sibley East 9
The Sibley East Wolverines took the early 6-0 lead in this contest when Carson Sturtz at 106 pounds lost by a second period pin.
Ty Peterson at 113 pounds got the Bucs on the board with 5-2 decision to pull the Bucs within three points of the Wolverines at 6-3.
Davis Sunken pinned his opponent in 57 seconds in the 120-pound match giving BEA a 9-6 lead.
Caleb Beeler at 126 pounds and Jacob Beeler at 132 both received forfeits as the Bucs opened up a 21-6 lead.
Jaxen Klinkner lost by a 12-8 decision at 138 pounds, but the Bucs still held a 21-9 edge.
Max Ehrich at 145 pounds and Koby Nagel at 152 each won by technical falls. Ehrich won his match 26-11 while Nagel was the victor by a 15-0 score. Those wins gave BEA a 31-6 lead.
Logan Johnson added to the lead with his 8-6 decision in the 160-pound match. Nick Frank won by forfeit at 170 pounds putting the Bucs up 40-9.
Domonic Whitlow scored a 17-2 technical fall at 182 pounds and Luke Mertens added a 7-1 decision giving BEA a 48-9 lead.
Erik Anderson and Ian Cornelio accounted for the final 12 points when both wrestlers received forfeits, Anderson at 220 pounds and Cornelio at 285.
BEA 62, Trinity School 12
The Buccaneers took on the Hawks of Trinity School at River Ridge in the final contest of the day. Trinity School at River Ridge is a private Christian school located in Eagan.
Carson Sturtz lost a close 2-1 decision at 106 pounds giving the Hawks the early 3-0 advantage.
Their lead was shortlived however, as 113-pounder Ty Peterson recorded a pin in 1:39 giving the Buccaneers a 6-3 lead. Davis Sunken received a forfeit at 120 pounds making the score 12-3.
Caleb Beeler recorded a major decision at 126 pounds before Jacob Beeler dropped an 11-7 decision at 132. The score stood at 16-6 in favor of the Bucs.
Jaxen Klinkner won by forfeit in the 138-pound match. Max Ehrich pinned his opponent in 57 seconds at 145 pounds and Koby Nagel was victorious by forfeit at 152 pounds to make the score 34-6 in favor of BEA.
The Hawks forfeited to Logan Johnson at 160 pounds. Nick Frank at 170 pounds earned a 9-1 major decision to put the Bucs out front 44-6.
Dominic Whitlow was pinned in the third period of the 182-pound match, but Luke Mertens at 195 pounds, Erik Anderson at 220 and Ian Cornelio at 285, all received forfeits to make the final score 62-3 in favor of the Buccaneers.
The Bucs were scheduled to wrestle St. James Area Friday, Jan. 25. Results of that match will be next week’s edition of the Faribault County Register.
