Bucs take second place in section
For the fourth time in as many years, the Blue Earth Area Buccaneers were denied a trip to the Minnesota State High School Wrestling Tournament by the Kenyon-Wanamingo Knights.
The Bucs had wrestled their way to the championship round of the section with a quarterfinal win over the Westfield Razorbacks and a semifinal victory over the Maple River Eagles.
On a day when other No. 1 seeded section teams, including Fairmont-Martin County West in Section 3AA and Kasson-Mantorville in Section 1AA, went down to defeat, the Bucs were unable to pull off the upset over the No. 1-seed Knights.
The loss brought an end to the dual meet part of the wrestling season for BEA. The Section 2A Individual Tournament was held Friday and Saturday, Feb. 22-23, in Blue Earth. Results of the tournament will be in next week’s edition of the Faribault County Register.
